SWEET MOTHERLAND
Everyone is impressed with England having four teams in the UEFA Champions League but hardly anyone is impressed with England's National team.
If you all remember, my last post British Powerhouse, suggested an issue about England's club succes is all a result of them buying footballers from other countries.
England has some decent footballers of it's own though. Theres Wayne Rooney who is only 22 years old playing for Manchester United who dubbed to be "Key man for England" at 20. Theres Steven Gerard who is loved by all and lets not forget David Beckham the most expensive footballer on the planet and he even had a film made after him( except he isnt a young Indian girl trying to convince her parents to let her play football.)
So what's wrong with their National team?
For starters most English footballers are born, bred and trained in England. Their whole Football career doesn't go past their shores. Many other successful Footballers though are found playing overseas at club level, and when asked why they left their home most would probably answer that they were "looking for a challenge" or they wanted "to learn a new style of Football."
And thats where the problem is for most English players. They don't leave home and thats why they are unable to bring anything new to the game. All their Football career is spent on learning one style of Football and then they go off to play agaisnt a country like Italy or Brazil and they get left behind. If England ,as a national team, wants to go further then where they are they need to learn to adapt to other forms of Football. So there is lots of buying happening but not enough selling. How long can England afford to do this?
There is the same problem here in Australia. However, thats starting to change, thanks to the worldcup. But we still have a problem. When it comes to our national squad our players are too far too far away to travel home all the way from England or Italy. So what do we do? Do we just prison our players in Australia just in case we need them? Maybe we should just start bringing the Football world here.
It's a good idea don't you think? I know you Football maniacs would love it!!!
