GERMANY GOES TO SEMI FINALS
Germany knock out Portugal and Proceed to the semi-finals of the Euro Cup in a 3-2 game in St.Jakob-Park.
FIRST HALF
Eventhough at the end of the match, at Basel, Portugal had more ball possessions, it is Germany who have successfully made it to the semi-finals.
Coming out of suspension after receiving a red card in the group stages, Bastian Schweinsteiger scored the first goal against what he calls, his "favourite opposition", in the 22nd minute.
Four minutes later Schweinsteiger sent a dircect free kick to Miroslav klose who scored Germany's second goal of the night.
It wasnt until the 40th minute that Portugal answered, with a goal from Nuno Gomes on the rebound.
Looking much more confident now that they had a goal, Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo almost scored before going to half time but the ball went wide off goal.
SECOND HALF
Portugal tried again to equalise in the second half only to be silenced by Michael Ballack's goal in the 61st minute.
Goalkeeper Ricardo was already feeling the stress of a dissapointing journey home before the end of the game.
Coming in as a substitute Helder Prostiga scored in the 87th minute, but he scored too late and one questions if maybe Scholari should have brought him in earlier into the game.
As the whistle went off Germany ran towards their fans in the stadium in endless cheer.
Bastian Schweinsteiger received the Carlsberg man of the match award for the superb talent he showed on the night.
