Coach Reviews
Adelaide: Neil Craig.
Craig's job must be safe if he serves up another solid year. This year he needs to make the next stage the Grand Final. Craig has done a great job with the team he was given and has not made dramatic changes to the list just improvements to the team as a whole.
Continued improvement will ensure a long term deal with big bucks. In the short future, Craig needs to ensure that he replaces the older Edwards, The Roo and other more experienced players with youth.
Brisbane: Leigh Matthews.
Top class coach who has been there, done that. Next year should be interesting with a job at Hawthorn a possibility. The lions have a young list with plenty of gaps in their lineup. They need continual improvement from his younger players. Getting a full season from Brown will be cruical for the Lions to be a chance at the top 8.
With Lappin still on one leg and Black still under a cloud the experienced players are few and far between uncovering a gloss of youth.
Carlton: Dennis Pagan
Supporters are split on their beliefs whether Pagan should be leading the Carlton FC. Is he the man for the future? Keep in mind that from the start Pagan has been behind the 8ball. Salary cap breaches resulted in Carltons draft selections being forfeitedwhen he first came to the club.
Pagan has the tallest side in the competition. But there is no point having all these talls when you have no one to deliver it to them. Classy and young up and coming midfielders Gibbs and Marc Murphy are a good sign. But there is more than 2 in a team. Pagan and his boys should just aim not to win the spoon.
Collingwood: Mick Malthouse
Surely Mick is near the end of his reign. Health problems may be the one thing he can't fix. His team is going along alright thanks to a soft and easier draw compared to every other club. Buckley towards the end of his time will hurt the pies. Who will play as a key forward this year?
Rocca = Inconsistent
Tarrent= Gone
Who else can fill in the gap? They will need to chuck one of their young talls in the fire and hope that they catch alight.
Essendon: Kevin Sheedy
After a couple of decades coaching the one club the latest problems could have been avoided if Kevin Sheedy had looked ahead during the glory times at Windy Hill. In 2000 the dons had to give away alot of players due to salary cap restrictions. Instead of seeking a suitable trade for draft pics they let their stars just walk out without getting anything for them. Sheedy will now regret this. Sheedy may not have long to go before his time at Essendon runs out.
Fremantle: Chris Conolly
What a a turn around top effort. Along with Adelaide Freo need to make the next step and make the elusive grand final. With Farmer and Pavlich firing Freo will be hard to stop next year. Along with Bell and Parker Freo now have an experienced list lacking Finals action. Continued improvement from the younger players Freo will become a threat. Look out for them next year.
Geelong: Mark Thompson
Just like his Melbourne counterpart Neil Daniher needs to fire to keep his job. After a very poor season after such a promising start to the NAB cup earlier in the year winning the Grand Final. They have the tallent but can they improve their base fitness? Can they play as a team? Will Ottens play up to expectations? I believe that no is the answer to the questions above. Unless Thompson and unhurl something special i highly doubt the outlook for the cats is bright.
Hawthown: Alistair Clarkson
Has a great young group of kids. All tall fast and highly skilled. Wont be long untill these kids hit their prime. Lance Franklin and Mark Williams need to spend time together to get familiar will the forward setup as those two guys are the future of the footy club.
Finals are proberly not on the agenda this year. But next year must be a productive year for the Hawks. Finals is a must for Clarkson. Hawks fans get excited the kids will step up a gear in the next 12 to 18 months.
Kangaroos: Dean Laidly
Shouldn't be coaching the Kangas. Should be coaching under 10's not the man for the job. Ill leave it at that.
Melbourne: See Article on Neil Daniher
Richmond Tigers: Terry Wallace
This year is the emergence of the Tiger. The tigers are a dark hourse for the finals this year. Foley, Raines, Delideo and Tambling are leading the new tiger out fit. Alond with the Bowden brothers and Richo the tigers will be a compeditive outfit. Looking forward to seeing the tigers run carry and flow. Look out for the Tigers in 2007.
Port Adelaide: Mark Williams
Question marks over his coaching. I still firmly believe that they are choakers. Williams has failed to backup his Premiership. Pearce is one of a kind. Many are amazed that Williams had his contract extended last year. Its a barve and bold move by the Port board.
This year is for futher development and next year they need to have another stab at the finals.
St.Kilda: Lyons
New kid on the block. Seem to be putting his team through the paces rather hard and pushing them to improve their base fitness. Last roll of the dice for the saints as the list is aging. May only have 2 solid years with the core of the playing group.
If he can get the list playing to the best of their ability they will become indestructable. Tough chalenge ahead for Lyons.
Sydney Swans: Paul Roos
We can expect the Swans in another Grand Final. And very likely against the Eagles. So far its one all so it is a 50/50 chance for another premiership. Great list of players. Goodes an absolute champion.
West Coast: John Worsfold
Same as above as well as the Eagles have added several strings to their bow in the recent draft and trade period. Likely to go 2 in a row.
Western Bulldogs: Rodney Eade
What a job this man has done in 2 years at the club. The new look doggies outfit are a fast, skilled team with a great setup. Young and fast is the team. Cooney will become a prime ball mover this year as well as Darcy if he can get his body right.
Thats it Please post comments below on what you think
