If there is one thing that can and will bring people together it is tragedy, and the desire to make a difference.
Star soccer player, David Beckham joined actors and other soccer players recently as they came together for a star-studded game raising in excess of $90,000, all of which will be used to help victims of October’s California wildfires.
Beyond the fund raising event, it was the first full game Beckham has played since coming to the U.S. to play with the Galaxy – due to injury, and used the game also to prepare himself for the Galaxy’s upcoming post seasons schedule, in addition to being available for the England national team.
While the focus was on charity, there is the knowledge that the mere presence of Beckham will boost the popularity in the sport which has continued to lag in the U.S. on the professional level.
Personally, I look forward to the future, as a life-long, self-described soccer fanatic any opportunity to bring the sport to the limelight is more than welcome.
