Captain Analisis

In this article i make an analysis of the AFL's 16 captains.

Starting with Adelaide's Mark Ricciuto: The crows veteran has another couple of years in him yet. The football the the Roo will play is most likely to be in the forward line with the occasional run in the midfield. Giving the crows flexibility with the other crows stars. Ricciuto will need to kick 30-40 goals next year if the Crows are going to have a crack at the flag in 2007. Ricciuto is a top player and inspirational leader. The Crows lead man will continue his hard work looking forward to perhaps one of his last finals series.

Brisbane: Well we are not sure at this stage who will lead the Lions this year. Jonathan Brown is the obvious front runner or will Leigh Matthews decide to go with the experienced Simon Black. No doubt it will all depend on if Matthews believes he can get a full season out of his champion centre half forward.

Carlton: Big Kouta will not lead the side after 2 years as the captain taking over from Craig Bradely. Kouta is expected to call it quits at the end of the 2007 season after signing a one year deal last year. So who are the candidates for the job? The most likely will be either Nic Stevens or Lance Whitnall. Either way these two will be Captain/Vice Captain. Forming a fairly good leadership team along with Kouta.

Collingwood: Nathan Buckley is closer to the end than the start. With in the next 2 years we will see the end of this great man's career. Who are the likely replacement to take the leadership role in the next couple of years? Well if Ben Johnston's off field behavior does improve he could be the dark horse. James Clement is an obvious contender for the prestigious role at Collingwood.

Essendon: Matthew Lloyd has a few years to go yet. If his body hold up he could easily add another 200 goals to his already impressive goal tally. A true leader who needs to help lead the next generation of baby bombers to success.

Fremantle: Pavlich is the new captain for 2007. The dual All Australian is a true leader who wants and deserves a premiership in the very near future. The emergence of his powerful style has aided the side to wins on many occasions. Wont be long until Pavlich wins a Brownlow. Peter Bell the captain in 2006 will be there to help Pavlich in his first season as skipper. Wont have a problem as he is a natural leader.

Geelong: What a surprise going for Tom Harley to lead the cats. The quietly spoken backman was a surprise to many after Steven King decided just to focus on his own game and not the teams performance as well after a disappointing 2006. But the cats are fitter and supposedly better. Harley who has had troubles with injuries last year will need to ensure that he can play the whole season with out his body breaking down.

Hawthown: Richard Vandenburg entering his 2nd year as the lead man. Is he the right man to lead the Hawks to a brighter future? Well i dont know it all depends on the assistance he get from his fellow leaders Shane Crawford, Chance Batman and co. It is a challenge for Richie to overcome can he do it?

Kangaroos: The leaders at the club dont have long left. Can they hang around long enough to show the young players such as Mackenzie how to lead a side. They leaders of the club need to continue to aspire the younger players to urn for success.

Melbourne: David Neitz has a enemy: Constancy. If the Dee's can get a full season out of him they will go very close to finals success.

Richmond: Kane Johnston many dont believe that he is the right man for the job. As most of his match day tasks involve tagging and taking players out of the game. Does Kane get his hands on the ball enough? He does a good job on the big players but is he a captain to lift a side and help pull his team over the line.
